Comic Con 2007

Since we review anything here at Reviewing the World, I figured it was about time to review an event. Not just any event mind you, but the biggest convention/comic convention to happen every year. Also I'll have lots of pictures for all those who couldn't be there and see it for themselves!

The Good: Lots of stuff being giving away, tons of stuff to do, some good deals on things to buy, and some pretty booth girls and other women in costumes, Celebs of the comic and film world walking around.

The Bad: Not enough time to do everything, the comic book panels were filled mostly with jokes and no content, lines everywhere, I was a bathroom break away from getting into the Futurama panel where the entire cast was (I'm still sad about that one) To get some of the free stuff you had to wait around all day, lot of stink nerds and ugly people, and dumb people who didn't even know what a comic was getting signatures on crap that would be more worthless the minute it was signed.

Now I know it seems like a lot of bad, but those few goods out weigh the bad by a lot. Sure I would have liked to scene Futurama but I got to stand behind Jim Lee in line for cookies. Sure there were lines for some of the swag but I still got a lot of cool swag! Overall I think the organization of the event was the best I've ever been apart of, I just wish the day was longer or that they would start it sooner. The doors open at 10 and that's pretty much when everything starts, but after you park and wait to get in, it's 11 so you've already missed an hour of cool stuff. Also it was like the Warped Tour, you have to choose your favorite panels to see and miss other ones you still wanted to go to. My friend wanted to see Resident Evil 3 stuff but we also wanted to see the Mystery Science Theater 3000 guy's new project The Film Crew so that's where we went. I really can't complain too much I just wanted to be able to see more! We'll see how it goes next year since I already bought my ticket hopefully I get to see everything I want to :)

Here's a bunch of pics hopefully they all post without any problems! Also I don't know any of the people in the pics they're all part of my awkward picture collection where I take pictures of
other people posing with the costumed freaks!

Burn Notice - This Baby's Hot!

Apparently someone was able to make a spy show work on television, I'm betting the secret is casting! When I first was flooded with commercials for the show I was interested not so much in the story but the people playing the characters, I saw Jeffery Donovan and was like, "Interesting" then I saw Bruce Campbell and I checked my local TV guide for listings! Bruce Campbell doing another TV series? Hell ya I'm watching, but that made me also say, "I hope it doesn't suck!" I'm very happy to report that it doesn't and it's picking up momentum, or at least that's what a bunch of sites are and news outlets are saying. So congrats cast... keep it up!

Now it may be coming off that I'm not a fan of the show but I am, it doesn't mean the shows perfect but it is keeping my attention. The first episode gets a free pass since almost every first episode in TV history is sketchy. There's a running plot to the show, Micheal (Donovan) is trying to figure out who kicked him out, or burned him, of the CIA or whatever government agency he works for. Then there's the individual plots the fuel each episode, I liked the first, second and fourth episode, but I didn't really care for the plot of the third episode.

Bruce Campbell does a great job playing a Beach Bum Ladies Man and has just enough screen time. I just wish they'd stop bringing up the fact that he's informing on Micheal to the Feds. Micheal's Mom is annoyingly great, she annoys you enough to want to she her more, while also reminding you of how your own Mother can sometimes be. As far as Gabrielle Anwar, I think she's a little out of place in the show. She's so skinny and muscular that at I can't find her attractive in the "Sexy Spy Girl" role that she's playing, and again I wish they would stop bringing up her and Micheal's relationship every time they share the screen together. And finally Donovan... Can I say that he has the best narrations on TV? Can I America? Damn right, his narrations are the best part of the show. The should call it Burn Notice: Tips on being a Spy. The writers do a great job of keeping the spy stuff basic and not falling for the same crap other shows have by making it too "Bond"ish, instead the make it more MacGyver and less Spy Kids 3D.

So check out the show on the USA network, Thursdays. But hey it's Cable, I got to watch most of these episodes back to back again last Saturday so even if you've missed out you can probably catch up. Score Card 8.0.

Comic Reviews! - Ultimate Powers 6

So it's Comic Time and up today Marvel Comics! (I'm trying to get them to send me preview issues, wink, wink, and if they do I'll review them!) On with the review!

Ultimate Power #6 (of 9)

Straczynski
Land
Leisten
Ponsor

This is Stracynski's (Amazing Spider-Man, Thor) last issue on the Mini and Mark Millar will be taking over for the final three of the series. So the Power's team and Ultimates go head to head with each other and find that... guess what? There evenly matched! It's still pretty cool to see two speedsters go up against each other and actually fight! I know! They actually fought! Also it was cool because it showed the perspective of outside the speedsters fight and inside the fight as well. The story didn't really move to much except at the end. The Power's Team's Evil Doctor gases Reed making pretty much everyone hate him that much more; and Fury reveals even more so that he's an evil fuck. And Doom's back... again... he's the new Magneto of dying a thousands times and coming back. Although it was pretty cool that he's a threat to Hyperion and company. Otherwise it was a pretty good issue in the declining Ultimate Universe, hopefully Marvel will put some effort back into the line instead of leaving well enough alone. Here's some pages revealing Doom's big come back after the break! I give it a solid 9.0.

Forza Motorsport 2

Forza 2 Motorsport

Microsoft Game Studios

XBOX360

Well it's hard for me to right this review because I didn't finish the game. I played as much of it as I could including several levels in Arcade and a brief stint in Career mode. Really I'm writing this for the people like myself who didn't play the first one and was looking for a good racing game. Unfortunately this game is a racing simulator. The learning curve compared to Sony's Gran Tourismo is significantly less but just like GT it's not very fun. I for one have no real interest in collecting real world cars in a video game setting. The graphics were good, but I've yet to see a car game and say, "That looks nothing like a Toyota Supra!" so I can't say that it really won me over. The Achievements on XBOX Live were pretty unbalanced too, ranging from easy to difficult with nothing really in the middle. It had a few to entice you to play the game more, but then the rest were really there for the dedicate Achievement Whores on XBOX Live. You can do custom paint jobs on your cars and I guess a lot of people love it since they could never afford to do it on their car in real life, but really the only thing you can do with that is show pictures of it on the internet and it takes a lot of time and effort so again I wasn't that dedicated and really I'm surprised there's so many "Car Guys" on XBOX. So I'm giving this game a 7.0 rent it unless you were looking for the next best driving simulator. Here's someone having way more fun playing the game then I did.

D.E.B.S. - B Movie Review

D.E.B.S. (I'm sure this stands for something cute and witty)

Directed AND Written by: Angela Robinson

Starring: Sara Foster, Jordana Brewster, Devon Aoki and Micheal Clarke Duncan.

Once in a while a B Movie comes along that is so BAD that it's Good... This is not one of those movies. This movies was just bad. The attempt to use "Hot" schoolgirls and lesbians to sell the movie to the audience fails horribly since there's only one woman that's hot and she doesn't play a school girl. Sadly this movie is revered by the Gay and Lesbian community and appears on channels like LOGO. I don't know why they would set their standards so low, or why they would feel like this was a positive movie for their community since it practically mocks them every chance it gets. Basically on of the recurited DEBS (Know I don't remember or care what it stands for) falls in love with Lucy Diamond (I only remember that because they say it ever minute like clock work). Lucy is a thief and... well that's it actually but that makes her feared and the most wanted criminal in the DEBS organization which looks like a house in Pasadena, CA. Also the organization is apparently super huge and has a crap load of woman working for it. None of them are apparently able to handle Lucy because she shows up at the end and even though shes out number by the hundreds the girls all flee like scared children.

So the Main DEB writes a paper on Lucy (The Bad Girl) and falls in love with her. Lucy breaks into the School aka House in Pasadena, bypassing their "state of the art" security system with like a Pen or something that can cut forcefields but she didn't cut enough for her whole body to go through (Yeah Graphics Guy or Girl I was paying attention to your laziness and continuity error!) then she jumps over some moving blue discs on the lawn, did I mention all the security is a cheap blue graphic? Long story short she kidnaps the main DEB they share a moment, blah, blah, blah the main DEB runs away with her after another encounter leaving the DEBS to think she's been kidnapped. Several Comedic scenes of the other DEBS ruffing up Bikers and Dock Workers in they're school girl uniforms follows. Also Devon Aoki's (Miho from Sin City) character has a French accent and is always smoking... I guess the French are always doing that... did I mention she's Asian American?

Well like all predictable movies the Main DEB goes back to the organization and the DEBS organization covers up where shes been. Lucy reforms and starts giving back everything she's stolen to win her Love back. You know what I'm bored thinking about how lame it is, they get back together at the end and frankly know one cares because it sucked so much getting there. There's some sub-love story between a Sub-DEB and a Sub-Bad Guy it sucks too because really they just showing them emailing each other and that's it. I think it also needs to be said that this is a remake of the the 2003 version with a new cast but same everything else... I don't know who gave it the green light a second time but way to go!

Story - 2
Graphics - 2
Acting - 1
Sound - 4
OVERALL - 2.25
